I know they CAN be done, but the time investment required to make the music great doing it by making individual instruments for each type of effect you want, and then having to make them for every instrument and transitions, etc is bad workflow. I'm holding out to really dig in to NES Maker until the application is complete with all the stuff from the Kickstarter. I'm really curious how they're going to make a DAW. ASM is a procedural language. You're not going to see ifs or loops in ASM, at least not like you'd be familiar with from a high-level language.

This is a very important feature, not only for the platformer style of game, but what about shoot-em-ups or spaceship games? I'd rather development of the tool continue past the designated release date, even push the release date back if necessary, to include a scrolling option.

Ahh, I see. So it is technically doable, but the sprite limitation would limit the aesthetic. I guess I could do the RPG engine and go to a brawler style for the random encounters - Double Dragon style, as you mentioned. For now I'll just be patient and see what the engine allows come August.
