Doesn't run on Windows XP

Before purchasing, I asked on Youtube, if the software would run on Windows XP. I was told it should but it currently doesn't. Will the be a compiled version that runs on XP?

Thanks!

Please update your unsupported piece of trash (a.k.a. Windows) to a supported piece of trash (modern Windows). Unless your machine is hopelessly outdated, at least Windows 7 can run on it and you won't be getting any nasty malware and be a target to spectre/meltdown-based attacks.

Personally, I'd recommend Linux... if NM would run on it, but currently it doesn't (maybe through wine, I don't know, no one tested if it's wine-compatible, only tried to run it on a pure mono, which doesn't work because of the drm).

I'm actually a developer myself and use Windows XP as my main development PC. This lets me know that what I create is compatible and optimized for my customers. I don't have to worry about any system requirement issues, bloated app/game, runtimes, etc. Also, no need to be rude.

If you are a developper, you may have Windows 7, 10
PC as well (or VM) to test the compatibility of your devs?

I don’t think NESMaker works on XP (But didnt’t try myself), I can only say it works well on Windows 7 and after.

If you want you can download and run it. You will see at least if it starts.

My suggestion would be to make a post on the facebook page and tag Joshua Fallon. I don't know if Windows XP is a high priority for them, but if anyone has more information about what the problem is, he does.

Yes, I have access to Windows 10 but I never develop on it. I usually just test a compiled app on it to make sure all is fine. That pc is for other personal stuff.

I have already downloaded and tested it on XP. It doesn't run at all. So I don't know what you mean by your last comment?

In order to run it, you would need NET framework 4.xxx
And because you may have a 32bit, you should try with the NESMaker 4.0.1 + the 32bit dna.dll ?
Here the files:
NESMaker 4.0.1:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hpgQXx_IaJVxN8qH3xkdKtFMY4PLhYno
and still the 32bit dna.dll to use with, here:

To copy/paste in your NESMaker folder.

More like he most likely uses a 32bit OS. 64bit WinXP was so limited release that many people don't even know that it exists.

I think there was .NET 4 for WinXP, let's see if I can find it. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851

Anyway, if it requires 4.5 or later, you won't be able to run it as 4.5 can't be installed on WinXP machines.

I'm well aware of that and have already done that but thank you. ;) I believe, the compiler used, does not support or is not setup to produce a 32 bit executable for Windows XP.

I would like to add. I will just put NESMaker aside right now. I already purchased it and can use it at a later time if I choose. I'm not here to create a stink or anything like that. I was just hoping that maybe it could be compiled to use Windows XP but that may not be the case with the .Net framework nowadays. I know nothing of .Net and have never used it in my two decades of programming. So I can not even suggest to the developer of what may need to be done. Anyways... I will keep an eye on NESMaker's development. It's a cool idea and I'm sure many will enjoy it. Thanks! ;)
