Locking a Player on a Screen

Okay here's what I'm doing my boss levels in my first platformer is like this.

Once the player (or Alex) enters the screen it does the Megaman Styled locking the player in the screen which triggers the Boss screen and the player cannot leave the left area of the screen, but instead of Dr. Emerald exploding like a robot master her vehicle explodes instead and she leaves the screen just like Robotnik's defeat in the sonic games, I'm sure it needs a special trigger to lock the player in so I'm not sure how to.

P.S - I feel using the forum and get help I can make note of it and boom do it without help from the forum and have knowledge to make my own games with ease.

Yeah... It's a classic boss room behavior ;) It's even in "Troll Burner". I am sure it's on Joe's todo list (of things to add / bring back).
I wanted to do that, but didn't have any satisfaying succes.
In the mean time, you could make the player warp in a already closed boss room (I used that technique to send the player in the boss room, in my adventure challenges demo: http://nesmakers.com/viewtopic.php?p=5297#p5297)
