Could someone write a more limited version of Shoot At Player routine?

One that would still shoot in the general direction of the player, but would be limited to 8 directions instead of aiming precisely at the player.

Why not just use shoot straight instead?
If your monster "move in 8 directions", then "stop", then "shoot straight", then "go first".

Because I want it to shoot in the general direction of the player, but not exactly so player has the chance of avoiding the bullet at close distance (a problem that makes directly shooting a player a bit unfair).
