A site I'm a member of hosts a two-week gamejam every year, and my entry this year was a NES game:
https://jmkdev.itch.io/taffer
It's a super simple platformer interpretation of the first level of Thief Gold, giving the protagonist a gun (the gamejam theme was '___ with guns'). I had two weeks to do all the art as well as learn NESmaker and eventually sit down and figure out some various assembly bits.
Didn't have time to make any music for it, sadly; I spent most of my time on the tilesets and animation.
Before needing to trim it a bit the main character had a full 12-frame walk cycle:
With lesser framerates for other actions:
While the gamejam entry version will stand as is, I am going to make a more robust version that more closely emulates Thief's gameplay - a visiblity/stealth system and some actual (if simple) AI for the guards, along with more of the tools and no gun. That'll just be a side project, so no idea when it'll be ready.
