Hello there,

I'm deepThought (H2G2 reference..., nothing to do with porn sry guys ), 30, CTO of a home automation/security company, also been a software dev since, well, as long as I can remember...
I love every kind of tech/science, low tech, high tech, software, hardware, maths, AI... you name it, so the NES platform has been a good friend since a long time, I've been studying/hacking this little monster in many ways, but never seriously got my head wrapped around asm until NESm came out, I've been waiting for this project since it was announced on KS.
So I hope to seriously get into it from now.
Some plans I have in the back of my mind which could happen with the help of NESm : a rogue-like and a fantasy rpg mainly (but I'd have to think about 4-way scrolling for this one which seems like a real pain in the b*tt).

Anyway guys, happy to be here and happy to see other people in the same mindset.

Welcome deepThought :)
Glad to have you here with us. I think France is well represented on the forum (5 maybe 6 members). Where in France

Anyway... can't wait to see what you create with NESMaker.

Before you start, I would strongly suggest you (if not already) to watch the tutorial videos: wedNESday (adventure module, and platform module).

From Alsace, you know the the little thing there just next to Germany ;)

Don't worry for the videos, I'm following closely the project's progression, i'll catch up on the last ones as soon as I can, but before I get fully into NES game dev, I've to put an end to some other things, I'm actually developing a genetic algorithm which I used to train PID loops for other projects (worked well but lots and lots of debug to do to call it a finished app).
I'm also starting to study path-finding algorithms since it's very useful in a lot of situations (thinking of my rogue-like idea) regarding game dev, I don't know if any sort of path-finding is currently supported in NESmaker, it seems not but I didn't do lots of research.
The A(star) algo seems a bit overkill and heavy in terms of memory but is very efficient. Who know, maybe I'll get it working in asm.

Great to have you with us. I'd started out learned the NES before NESmaker came along so jumped at the chance to use it as a learning tool and it has helped immensely. Been so used to high level languages where API's and the Operating System itself handles all the low level end management that I didn't realize just how spoiled I'd been until I had to handle all that myself and wrap my head around it. Working with the 6502 directly and through NESmaker had been a great learning experience and I hope you have fun with it too and can't wait to see what gaming experiences you come up with.

Coding in ASM for NESMaker is very fun.
I’ve never written ASM code before, I tried to learn it was to difficult, hard to understand...
But NESMaker and all the videos made by Joe helped me and now I can write my own small scripts!
