Mapper 30 circuit board question

Hello. I've just a short question. First I was looking for the N8 to test my game on real hardware (european NES).

But it would just be for testing so the cartridge seems not as good as an INL Kit. So I'm a newbie in flashing and stuff.

Is it possible to flash the board several times to test the game step by step / always the newest version?

Or is it a one time write and I would always have to flash a new circuit board? :(

Greetz, Pete :)

You can use the Everdrive N8 to play your NESmaker games: https://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=8289.0

The carts can be flashed many times, it's not just a one time flash.

Hello baardbi :) thanks again. Oh then it's a hard decision for me. But I really like to try something until it works and I like technical/hardware stuff. So I think the INL kit is the way to go :) thank you very much.

Just a heads up... I don't think the INL carts are ideal for testing purposes. You're way better off with a N8 for testing. I'm not sure if there is a limit on the INL carts, but I recall someone in the Facebook group advised against using INL carts for testing purposes (although they can be reflashed). I have a N8 myself, and it's a very quick and easy way to test your game on real hardware.

well, considering the fact that the INL mapper 30 carts are what nesmaker games are designed to run on, i cant really see why they wouldn't be ideal for testing.
everdrive is just an emulation of the mapper which may or may not be fully accurate, especially when we're talking about the flash saving functionality of mapper 30.

OK. Cool. As long as there isn't a limit on the number of flashes you can make, then I'm sure it's great for testing. I just remember someone on the Facebook group advised against it a few months ago. Can't remember why though... But Mugi knows what he's talking about, so looks like INL carts is a good choice for testing after all :)

Thank you baardbi and Mugi :)

I received a reply of INL while we wrote here.

The cartridge is re-programmable, so you can erase & reflash it over and over again as many times as you'd like.

This sounds really good to me so I ordered a kit :)

Thank you once again.

there is technically a limit of how many times you can flash it.
it's somewhere between 200000 and 300000 so you should be fine for a few lifetimes :p

Is the erase a separate procedure for mapper 30 or do I just flash again using the Make Cart button in the ui?
Thanks,
Peter

When you flash, you overwrite what's currently on the cart. (the erase is automatically done before writing the rom on the cart).
