Hello everyone, my name is Jay and I live in upstate New York. Been a gaming fan since the Atari days and really looking forward to starting my game making journey. I've worked through several tutorials and found NESMaker is surprisingly easy to use. Plus, compiling into a playable ROM is a huge bonus! My end goal is get some kind of turn based RPG working. Any pointers would be appreciated!

Welcome @jaydeth
Glad to have you here with us.
I'd strongly suggest to follow all the tutorial videos from the official page:https://www.thenew8bitheroes.com/learn
- the 12 days of NESmas series
- the module specific tutorial videos (you can skip all the "beginner" videos, you won't learn anything useful from them).

RPG is really challenging to make. NESmaker doesn't have any RPG module. But I'd suggest to try making a smaller project (based on the adventure module). And when you will become more familiar with the tool, and advanced wiht the code you could try to add more RPG elements to your projects.

Check on the forum, there are a ton of custom scripts, community tutorials, helps, answers, fixes, ...
Can't wait to see what you will create with NESmaker.

hey neighbor! :) Welcome to the club! NESmaker has roots in your area. Just ask Joe G about his inspiration to make Mystic Searches. :)
