I remember my friend burning a bunch of emulators for the Dreamcast back in the day and got to wondering if you could pack up your nes homebrew and make it autoboot straight in.
I found an emulator open source called nesterDC and paid my friend to make the changes. It was using a really old compiler for Linux but he managed to figure it out and now it's possible and really easy to set up.
The added benefits to this are that producing a Dreamcast game is much cheaper than a NES cart and you don't need a chipped Dreamcast to play homebrew.
the Dreamcast homebrew community is also quite active.
